Product Description

The ARO PortaStand™ is a thoughtfully engineered portafilter stand designed to provide a stable, adaptable platform for espresso puck preparation. It supports virtually all portafilter styles, sizes, and handle geometries while allowing fine control over both portafilter height and handle support position.

Unlike fixed-height stands, the ARO Adjustable PortaStand is fully modular. The portafilter is supported at two independently adjustable contact points: a steel-reinforced silicone portafilter rest that supports the basket and body, and a flexible silicone handle saddle that supports the handle. Each contact point can be dialed in separately to create a perfectly level, stable setup for your specific portafilter and workflow.

The result is a puck prep stand that adapts to your equipment rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all configuration. Whether you are using a bottomless or spouted portafilter, straight or angled handle, the stand provides stable support for dosing, distribution, and tamping.

Key Features

  • Universally Compatible Design: Engineered to support bottomless, single-spouted, and double-spouted portafilters, as well as straight and angled handles across a wide range of brands and sizes. Compatibility is achieved through a contoured top interface, chamfered spout opening, flexible handle saddle, and height adjustment.
  • Independent, Precision Height Adjustment: The portafilter rest height adjusts in 3 mm increments using a dedicated spacer, while the handle support height adjusts in 6 mm increments via five magnetic silicone spacers. Both contact points are adjusted independently, allowing precise leveling to suit different portafilters, tools, tamping styles, and user preferences.
  • Steel-Reinforced Silicone Portafilter Rest: Durable silicone overmolded around a rigid steel core provides a stable, non-slip platform for distribution and tamping. The silicone contact surface protects the portafilter from scratches while resisting flex under repeated tamping forces.
  • Solid Aluminum Pedestal: Machined from aerospace-grade aluminum and anodized black for a durable, scratch-resistant finish. The pedestal provides rigid structural support and precise alignment between components.
  • Steel-Reinforced Silicone Baseplate: Silicone overmolded around a thick steel plate adds significant weight and stability. The polished silicone underside provides a non-slip base that stays firmly in place during use.
  • Contoured Top Interface: An outer centering lip stabilizes the portafilter body, while a large chamfered center opening accommodates single- and double-spouted portafilters. A flat outer surface supports bottomless portafilters with equal stability.

Usage Instructions

The ARO PortaStand ships fully assembled with the 3 mm riser pre-installed beneath the aluminum pedestal. No assembly is required. Simply place the stand on your counter and dial in the fit for your portafilter.

Initial Setup:

  1. Place the stand on a flat countertop. The polished silicone base will prevent slipping during use.
  2. Insert your portafilter into the stand so the basket rests on the portafilter rest and the handle sits in the silicone saddle.

Handle Height and Reach Adjustment:

  1. Add or remove magnetic silicone spacers on the steel base to set the handle support height. Each spacer adds 6 mm.
  2. Slide the spacer stack forward or backward to fine-tune handle reach and balance.
  3. Rotate the silicone handle saddle 180° if needed to better support angled handles.
  4. Adjust until the portafilter is level, stable, and fully supported at both contact points.

Fine Height Adjustment (Portafilter Rest):

  1. If finer adjustment is needed, remove the aluminum pedestal from the silicone baseplate.
  2. Add or remove the 3 mm riser beneath the pedestal to adjust the portafilter rest height. Note: The 3 mm riser is installed by default.
  3. Press the aluminum pedestal firmly back into the silicone baseplate. Some force is required to fully seat it.

You’re now set up to perform puck prep on a stable, hands-free platform.

Compatibility

The ARO PortaStand is designed to be compatible with nearly all espresso portafilters, including bottomless, single-spouted, and double-spouted configurations. It supports straight and angled handles across a wide range of brands and sizes. The design has been validated through testing with over 100 different portafilters to ensure broad, real-world compatibility.

Care and Maintenance

Brush off loose grounds after use or wipe clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. All components can be disassembled hand washed with mild soap and lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry before reassembly.
